Waste Engineer.

Overview:

I am recruiting on behalf of my client, a specialist in nuclear waste management and decommissioning, for a Waste Engineer to join their team. This role involves designing and implementing waste management strategies, ensuring compliance with regulations, and contributing to the safe and sustainable handling of radioactive and non-radioactive waste.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with an industry leader committed to sustainability and innovation in highly regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement efficient waste management plans to support operational and decommissioning activities.
  • Ensure all waste management activities meet relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations, particularly for radioactive materials.
  • Identify, classify, and categorize waste materials, ensuring accurate documentation and reporting in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical advice on the treatment, disposal, and recycling of waste, including radioactive and hazardous materials, to minimize environmental impact.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver waste management aspects of decommissioning and remediation projects.
  • Analyse waste inventory data and prepare detailed reports for internal stakeholders and regulators, highlighting opportunities for process improvement.
  • Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and internal teams to ensure seamless communication and compliance with project objectives.

Qualification & Experience:

  • At least 3- 5 years in waste management within highly regulated industries such as nuclear, environmental, or defence.
  • Proven experience in radioactive waste management and understanding of decommissioning processes.
  • Expertise in waste minimisation, treatment, and disposal techniques.
  • Familiarity with radioactive waste characterization and transport regulations (e.g., IAEA, ADR).
  • A degree in Environmental Science, Waste Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certifications in waste management or environmental compliance are advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of UK and international waste management regulations.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.

Clearance:

  • SC Clearance or ability to obtain SC Clearance.
