EC&I Engineering Manager – Contract (Outside of scope of IR35)
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead an EC&I (Electrical, Control & Instrumentation) team, overseeing complex engineering projects and managing the delivery of high-quality design solutions. The Role:
As the Engineering Manager for EC&I, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of EC&I design, from initial concept to final delivery. You will support a team of engineers, ensuring process, technical and project objectives are met while adhering to safety, quality, and budget standards. Your leadership will be key in fostering collaboration across departments and maintaining high standards of engineering and operational excellence.
Key Managerial Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Development: Support process delivery ensuring a high level of technical competence and continuous professional development.
- Project Oversight: Manage the end-to-end delivery of EC&I projects, ensuring that designs are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Resource Allocation & Planning: Oversee project resource planning and allocation, ensuring that engineering teams have the necessary skills and capacity to meet project demands.
- Client Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring that their needs are met and maintaining strong relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
- Technical Oversight: Provide technical leadership and direction in the development of CE&I designs, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations (e.g., BSEN 61508, BSEN 61511).
- Quality & Risk Management: Oversee the development of design justification reports and risk mitigation strategies, ensuring that all technical risks are identified and addressed.
- Budget & Schedule Management: Take ownership of project budgets and timelines, ensuring efficient management of resources, costs, and deliverables.
- Subcontractor & Supplier Management: Manage relationships with external suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring they meet required technical and quality standards.
- Commissioning & Handover: Oversee FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities, ensuring all systems are delivered to specification and meet operational requirements.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the team and across the department to enhance engineering processes, quality, and efficiency.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- A Relevant Engineering Degree (e.g., Electrical, Control & Instrumentation) or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Proven experience in EC&I design and functional safety (BSEN 61508 & 61511).
- Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to manage budgets and project schedules effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with clients, stakeholders, and senior management.
Desirable Skills:
- Membership of an appropriate technical/professional body.
- Experience with HVAC control systems.
- Knowledge of HAZOP/HAZID processes.
- Familiarity with IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent health and safety qualifications.
Working:
- Hybrid working model - office based 2 days every fortnight
- 9 day working fortnight
