Introduction from the Board of Directors

This statement is made as part of the commitment of Scantec Personnel Limited (“Scantec”) to improving our practices to combat slavery and human trafficking.

This statement outlines how Scantec operates, the policies and procedures in place to minimise the possibility of any slavery or human trafficking; any risks we have identified and how we monitor them; how we train our staff and the steps we have taken in order to ensure transparency throughout our supply chain.

Our Business

We are a recruitment business providing temporary workers and permanent staff to the Technical, Engineering, FMCG and Scientific sectors of businesses throughout the UK and Overseas.

Initially servicing the Petrochemical, Shipbuilding and Oil & Gas industries, Scantec has since successfully developed other sectors including Power Generation, Decommissioning, Nuclear, Defence, Energy, Process, Project Services, Pharmaceutical, FMCG, IT, General Engineering, Civil and Building and Professional Services sectors.

We work closely with clients to develop an in-depth understanding of their business and offer a service tailored to each specific requirement.  From an individual to a complete team, Scantec will source the people from our wide and diverse recruitment database of skilled candidates.

Our single site operation is based in the North West of England; employing x70 (2015) staff and all our Recruitment Consultants are extensively trained and hold recruitment qualifications.  These standards are endorsed with ISO 9001 accreditation and Investors in People.

Our current annual turnover is just over £62m (2015).

Our Supply Chain

All of the hirers that we work with and all of the work-seekers we provide, are identified by our staff.  All of the temporary workers we supply are identified by our staff.  Some of these work-seekers operate through their own limited companies and some of our work-seekers are supplied via other business intermediaries, who facilitate providing them to the eventual hiring company.

Our Policy on Slavery and Human Trafficking

We are committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chain or in any part of our business.  Our Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy reflects our commitment to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure slavery and human trafficking is not taking place any where in our supply chain.

Our core values are the values that our company is committed to and we believe are vital to our continued success, they underpin the way we conduct our business and our behaviours and we use these values in our approach to social standards, including our approach to tackling slavery and human trafficking.

  • Quality – We provide a high quality service; we do not cut corners, take the easy route or go for every job.  If we cannot meet your requirements then we will not commit to doing so.
  • Transparency – We commit to being as transparent as possible. We are clear about what we can offer and what we cannot, and the standards our clients and candidates and staff can expect from us, and what we expect from them.
  • Integrity – Our business is all about relationships, in order to build long term, strong relationships we must act with integrity at all times. We must conduct ourselves in a proper and professional manner and never devalue our brand with impropriety.
  • Honesty – We will not intentionally deceive or mislead anyone. We are upfront about the services we can and cannot provide, the resources we have available and the likely outcomes for all involved.

Due Diligence Processes for Slavery and Human Trafficking

As part of our initiative to identify and mitigate risk we:

  • Carry out statutory and due diligence checks on our worker seekers and their respective employers.
  • Ensure that workers have the right to work in the UK by checking the regulated identification documents.
  • Endeavour to build long standing relationships with suppliers and clients, and communicate our core values and business behaviour.
  • Assess the level of risk involved before supplying workers overseas.
  • With regards to national or international supply, our point of contact is preferably with a UK company or branch.

We have in place systems to:

  • Identify, assess and monitor potential risk in our supply chain.
  • Protect whistle blowers.

After due consideration, we have not identified any significant risks of modern slavery, forced labour, or human trafficking in our supply chain.  However, we continue to be alert to any problems.

Supplier Adherence to Our Values (and Ethics)

We have zero tolerance to slavery and human trafficking.  We expect all those in our supply chain and contractors to comply with our values, to ensure this we have in place a rigorous supply chain compliance programme.  This consists of:

  • Policies: it is the responsibility of the Board of Directors to review the policies relating to Modern Slavery and the processes by which they are developed and adhered to.
  • Risk Assessments: it is the responsibility of our team managers to assess the risk of Modern Slavery in our supply chain.
  • Due Diligence: it is the responsibility of our business improvement, compliance and support teams to carry out due diligence to ensure we meet our responsibilities.
  • Training: it is the responsibility of our Learning and Development team for ensuring all staff are trained in Slavery and Human Trafficking, and understand the risks as well as our policies and procedures regarding the Act.

Training

To ensure a high level of understanding of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chains and our business, we provide training to all our staff.

Our Effectiveness in Combating Slavery and Human Trafficking

We use the following key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure how effective we have been to ensure that slavery and human trafficking is not taking place in any part of our business or supply chain:

  • We require all staff to have undertaken Modern Slavery training within the course of their induction
  • Existing staff will have completed the training by 31st December 2016.
  • We will incorporate modern slavery checks into our supply chain management process.
  • We will continue to review our existing supply chain procedures, with a further review completed by 30th June 2017

Further Steps

Awareness Raising programme

As well as our training programme, to ensure that there is no human trafficking in our supply chains, we intend to undertake an awareness raising programme to further combat slavery and human trafficking, whereby we circulate to our employees, workers and clients the following information:

  • The basic principles of the Act
  • How employers can make enquiries to help prevent slavery
  • What to do if you suspect slavery
  • The external help available

This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes our slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ending 31st December 2016.
